Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His full name was Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi, father’s name was Karam Chand and mother’s name was Putlibai. Rabindranath Tagore was the first to call Gandhiji as “Mahatma”, since then Gandhiji came to be known as Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhiji played an important role in liberating India from the increasing oppression and tyranny of the British, hence he was declared the “Father of the Nation” of India.
